Brain Training Options
The investments we make in our children and in their futures are all important, but one of the greatest single investments has been missing. We can now make children smarter for the rest of their lives. A ‘cognitive first approach’ can be expressed as a simple formula. (E = T x LC) or Education = Teaching x Learning Capacity.
No matter how much the various supportive elements of the teaching process are improved, a dominating need to strengthen core cognitive skills and increase learning and reading capacity is a limitation that no amount of teaching or tutoring excellence can overcome.
Building learning capacity requires commitment to do mental exercise for anywhere from 20 hours to 40 hours to 75 hours of work over 8 to 15 weeks, but the results change lives and last for a lifetime.
The choice to pursue a brain training activity can be determined by two combined key factors: Personal Goals and The Level of Personal Need.
What option will be selected requires additionally examining both cost and program effectiveness. Options are available in four general categories:
1. Stand-alone Games (free but with limited potential for sustainable gains)
2. Online Programs ($495 to $2,000+)
3. Combined Personal and Online Training ($1,500+)
4. Personal Training Clinics ($2,500 to $5,000+)
Programs (numbers 2, 3 and 4) can be initiated at any time and typically require 45 – 60 minute sessions, 4-5 days/week, for 8-15 weeks to complete.
In each of these categories Cognitive First asks the question, “How can lower-income, under-resourced and at-risk children best be helped?” We are addressing that question by introducing and offering sponsored access to reading readiness exercises and affordable cognitive skill testing and online brain training programs.
